Minors Available to CS/CSE/CE Students

Minors of possible interest to our students are:

Information Technology Minor

A minor is available only to a matriculated student currently pursuing a baccalaureate degree. While not required for graduation, a minor provides an option for the student who wants an academic focus in addition to a major. Completion of a minor requires that a student earn a C (2.0) grade or better in each of the required courses for that minor. A maximum of 3 credits toward the minor may be transfer credits of courses equivalent to University of Connecticut courses. Substitutions are not possible for required courses in a minor. A plan of study for the minor signed by the department or program head, director, or faculty designee must be submitted to the Degree Audit Office during the first four weeks of the semester in which the student expects to graduate. The minor is then recorded on the student's final transcript. The minor may be chosen from any of those listed in the university catalog as minors.

Information technology (IT) is revolutionizing engineering practice in the 21st century. Advances in computing capabilities have ushered in an era of integration between information technology and engineering practice, allowing engineers to address problems of unprecedented complexity. The IT Minor (15 credits) meets the global need for engineering professionals possessing IT foundations.

The objectives of the program are: to educate non-Computer Science engineering majors in information technology; to broaden the appeal of School of Engineering baccalaureate program.

The requirements of this minor are
  • CE211, Applied Mechanics I;
  • CSE254, Introduction to Discrete Systems; and
  • 9 additional credits of 200's level engineering courses.
The minor is offered by the School of Engineering.

*Note
  • Due to prerequisites CSE123 and CSE133 are also required but are not counted as part of the minor.
