1. From Boston Airport (BOS)
By taxi: The hotel is a 15-20 minute ($20-28) cab ride from Logan Airport.
By public transportation (20-25 minutes): take the free shuttle bus (#22 or 33) to the metro (called the “T”) and take an “Inbound” train to Government Center ($1.25). Walk left on Cambridge Street 200 meters.
2. BY PUBLIC TRANSIT (or Car + Public Transit)
Take the metro (called the “T”) to any of Park Street, Government Center, or State Street stations -- they're within 200 yards. From Gov't Center, turn left along Cambridge Street. From Park Street, walk east along Tremont -- follow Freedom Trail (bricks in sidewalk).
Express commuter buses to Downtown Crossing and Haymarket are in easy walking distance.
Amtrak, intercity buses, and Commuter Rail at South Station and North Station are about 1km.
3. By car from the Boston suburbs
We strongly recommend parking your car at a peripheral metro (“T”) station, and taking the T into town as above. Or perhaps use commuter rail. (North or South Station are about 1 km). Peripheral T stations with parking include Alewife (Rte 2), Riverside (Rte 128, longer ride), Wonderland (Rte 1A), Wellington (between 1 and 93 Southbound) or Sullivan Square (Rte 93 S), and Braintree (Rte 3/93 N). Rumor has it that some fill early; often there are commercial facilities next door to them. http://www.mbta.com/traveling_t/schedules_subway.asp or www.mbta.com
4. If you insist on driving:
From Interstate 93 Northbound: Take Exit 23 and follow signs for Government Center. At the traffic lights, turn left onto North St. At the end of North Street (400 meters) turn left onto Congress Street. Take first right onto State Street (whose name changes immediately to Court Street) and go to the end, turning left at the fork onto Tremont Street. Turn left onto School Street; hotel is immediately on the right. (Did I mention that Boston’s streets were originally cowpaths?)
From Interstate 93 Southbound: Take Exit 24A, and bear right onto New Chardon Street. At the second set of lights, turn left onto Cambridge Street. Stay on the right hand side of Cambridge Street; at the third set of lights turn left onto School Street. Hotel is immediately on the right.
From Massachusetts Turnpike: Go to the end (Exit 24B), which will put you on Rte 93 Northbound. Follow directions above.
Alternative directions from Mass Pike (slower but perhaps simpler): Get off at Cambridge exit, turn right onto Storrow Drive and exit at Cambridge Street. Go across the circle and follow Cambridge Street till it curves (world's ugliest City Hall is on the left) and becomes Tremont. School Street and hotel garage are on the left.
5. Tips on renting and parking:
Don’t rent at the airport. Car rentals (Avis, Dollar, Enterprise) are available near the hotel.
Overnight valet parking at the hotel is $35. There is an additional $16 fee for early arrival or late departure. There is no validated parking.
“When you arrive, stop in front of the School Street entrance and speak to the Doorman”.
There are also commercial parking facilities in the area.
4. Walking directions to
the Banquet at the New England Aquarium:
(Distance is 1 km.)
Scenic route (much nicer): turn right from Tremont one block further, and go parallel Court/State Street towards the waterfront. You'll pass the City Hall Plaza, the Quincy Market, and the Waterfront park -- all tourist attractions.
