Abstract:
A new generation of Internet-based services is challenging the traditional install-and-upgrade model of software. This talk discusses experiences building one of the industry’s premiere hosted enterprise services, salesforce.com. It focuses on data management issues and outlines some research directions in this area.
Speaker Bio:
Dean Jacobs’ research interests are in distributed systems, transaction processing, and databases. His academic pedigree includes a Ph.D. from Cornell University, a stint on the faculty of the Computer Science Department at the University of Southern California, and involvement with various international conferences and journals. His industrial pedigree includes the development of several widely-used commercial distributed systems. He was one of the original developers of the WebLogic Application Server and was responsible for its clustering architecture. Currently, he is a Principal Architect at salesforce.com.
