(2) System Administration Student Position (part-time/full-time): 
Description: The Computational Biology Core (CBC) at the University of Connecticut in the Institute for Systems Genomics, is seeking an experienced individual for Linux and HPC user support. The CBC supports student and faculty users across multiple UConn campuses who are involved in genomics research. Applicants must be experienced with various Linux distributions (CentOS and Ubuntu), software installation from source, and troubleshooting UNIX challenges for users. S/he must have also experience with Python, Perl, shell scripting, and R. S/he must have working knowledge of file system management, security protocols, and cluster computing (Torque/SGE). Candidate will be responsible for ongoing performance tuning, software upgrades, support of genomic/bioinformatic database resources, user support, documentation of common workflows, and resource optimization.  Daily user support includes assistance with job submission to the cluster, data transfer, resource allocation, file permissions, execution of complex pipelines, and job monitoring.  The successful candidate must work independently and efficiently in a team setting and have strong communication and interpersonal skills. Previous experience with open-source bioinformatic software is desired.
Job Requirements:      
Working knowledge of network storage, hardware, file system management, security protocols, and resource optimization
Experience with various Linux distributions (CentOS and/or Ubuntu), software installation from source, and general user support in a cluster environment.
Experience with RDBMS, including MySQL and PostGreSQL
Experience with scripting languages (Perl/Python), shell scripting, and R
 
Hours  15.0 to 35.0 hours per week
Hourly Rate    $11.00/hour to $12.50/hour, Depends on Experience

(3) Database and Web Developer Student Position (part-time/full-time):
Description: Position available at UConn in the Plant Computational Genomics Lab in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. We are seeking an applicant to assist with advanced web application development related to tools integrating big data.  This big data relates to genotypes, phenotypes, and environmental map layers for forest tree species that are georeferenced.  This web application will serve thousands of forest tree researchers worldwide interested in understanding the genetic underpinnings of adaptation in light of climate change and related threats.  The application is developed based on this framework but is undergoing a complete re-design: http://treegenesdb.org/cartogratree/
Job Requirements:
Applicants should be proficient in UNIX and comfortable with at least one scripting language (Python or Perl). Applicant should have advanced web application and database skills, including HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, etc.  In addition, comfort with backend database systems such as MySQL or PostGreSQL are necessary.
 
Hours  15.0 to 35.0 hours per week
Hourly Rate    $11.00/hour to $13.00/hour, Depending on Experience
