Speaker: Saleh Ibrahim Day: Wednesday, 09/28/2005 Room: ITE 336 Time: 3:30pm Title: Using S-Tree Structure for Lossless Image Compression Abstract: Medical imaging produces huge amounts of data. The finest details of such images should be reserved. The S-tree structure is a hierarchical data structure that exploits the fact that such images have very high pixel-to-pixel correlation. In this talk I will present the S-Tree structure, which was first proposed for representing two-level images. I will present the modified S-Tree structure, and explain the Retrenching procedure that further reduces the storage requirements. Finally I will present the Modified S-Tree extension for representing gray-level images. The algorithms for generating the compressed bit streams will be explained in details to see how image reconstruction can be achieved.
