If you want to use 1.5 line spacing, it becomes at least 8 full pages. For double spacing, it becomes a lot more. Anyone who submits a paper that's too short will automatically get a reduction in their grade. However, one of the students (Ricardo Mardales, mardales@juno.com) got QuiP to run with 1.4.2 successfully. He had to move around a couple of files; please contact him for details if you have to use this version yourself. ============================================================================ Date: Nov. 5, 2003 RE: hints for getting QuiP to run For those who need to download the Java Run-time Environment (J2RE): If you find that the download site at java.sun.com is not working, there is a great alternative -- a site at Berkeley. You can find it by googling "J2RE download"; Berkeley will be about the 6th link from the top. It offers version 1.3.1_04, which is compatible with QuiP. Also, the "readme.txt" file mentions editing the Java path in the CMD file. This is the line in "QuipGui.cmd" that starts with "@set JDK=". For example, if you download from Berkeley, you will need to add "_04" at the end of that line. ======================================================================== Date: Nov. 4, 2003 Re: to do for Thursday Please go to the "QuiP" link in the "links" section, download and unzip QuiP (you must have the Java Runtime environment). Then read "readme.txt" and follow directions to make sure you can successfully run XML queries. Run several queries, see what happens. Also look at the files in "doc" and "examples" subdirectories. ================================================================================= Date: Nov. 3, 2003 Re: midterm grades The grade for those who have received the score of 71-75 has been upgraded from B to A-. ================================================================================== Date: Oct. 16, 2003 Re: hw1 points > Can you please tell me how the marks are distributed for the 4 problems in hw1. Yes, this is a typo, it should have been 'pure_plane_path:'; this has been corrected. ========================================================================= Date: Oct 08, 2003 Re: midterm There will be an in-class midterm, all books and articles open, on Thursday Oct. 16 ========================================================================== Date: Oct 08, 2003 Re: question about hw 2 > Prof. Goldin, > For query Q1 in the first problem of homework 2, > would the following datalog statement be sufficient: > ... > even though it will return duplicate names... You can assume that the queries are set-based, so there are no duplicate Names. I know that the system we have leaves duplicates, but you can ignore them. ========================================================================== Date: Oct. 07, 2003 Re: URL for Dr. Shvartsman's articles From: Robert Sheahan Dr. Shvartsman's papers are available for free download at free download for RAMBO http://citeseer.ist.psu.edu/lynch02rambo.html free download of Rambo II http://theory.lcs.mit.edu/~sethg/pubs/RamboII-DSN.pdf ============================================================================= Date: Oct 06, 2003 Re: Homework 2 available, due Oct 14 It can be found on the CSE 350 web site, at http://www.cse.uconn.edu/~dqg/cse350/cse350f03hw2.html ======================================================================== Date: Sep. 30, 2003 Re: Datalog page updated We have updated the Datalog page to include upload instructions for GNU prolog on the learning center machines. ======================================================================== Date: Sep. 19, 2003 Re: Datalog page available It has instructions for downloading and running Datalog, as well as links to two sample files, at http://www.cse.uconn.edu/~dqg/cse350/datalog Our thanks to Robert Sheahan for helping us set it up. ======================================================================== Date: Sep. 12, 2003 Re: Homework 1 available, due Sep. 23 It is an MS Word document that can be found on the CSE 350 web site, at http://www.cse.uconn.edu/~dqg/cse350/cse350f03hw1.doc ======================================================================== Date: Sep. 9, 2003 Re: Questionnaire available, due Sep. 11 It can be found on the CSE 350 web site, at http://www.cse.uconn.edu/~dqg/cse350/questionnaire.txt ======================================================================== Date: Sep. 2, 2003 Re: GA position available The Neag School of Education is looking for a Graduate Student (MA or PhD) for a GA position.
