Student Societies

ACM Chapter

The ACM chapter at the University of Connecticut provides a voice for student concerns about computer-related issues and a venue for educational enrichment. While membership primarily consists of students who will go on to be computer science professionals after graduation, membership is open to anyone with an interest in computer science. UCONN-ACM organizes and promotes group activities, such as visits to computer-related businesses, conferences, and museums. These activities are intended not only to further our knowlege of computer systems, but also help us build a cohesive community of computing enthusiasts.

UCONN-ACM also periodically invites guest speakers to make presentations at UCONN for our collective enrichment. ACM members are encouraged to attend these presentations, as are any interested community members.

Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE)

Upsilon Pi Epsilon is the first and only international honor society for the Computing Sciences (CS). The membership of UPE consists of outstanding undergraduates and graduates in computing science. The society’s goals include:

  • The recognition of outstanding talent in the field of computing science.
  • The promotion of high scholarship in computing science.
  • The establishment and maintenance of high standards in computing science.
  • The representation of computing science in interdisciplinary communications.
  • The encouragement of individual contributions to society through computing science.

UPE has received endorsements from the two largest computer organizations in the world, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the IEEE Computer Society (IEEE-CS). The UConn chapter can be contacted at http://upe.uconn.edu/
